Also commenting on aggravated social dynamics,
at Schroeder Romero Eric Heist set up his
"Interfaith Center" initiating
a visual dialogue between atheists, benign
believers and fundamentalists via sculptures,
paintings, collages and a video compilation
of evangelical television shows. The stunning
gouache paintings of the Crystal Cathedral
near Los Angeles (with worship space for
tens of thousands) beautify one of the more
disturbing developments in American suburbs:
the mega-church. Several pews stand in the
centre of the gallery, turned towards a pulpit.
The pews are only big enough for one worshipper – an
individual passenger seat for an undefined
spiritual journey.
